Submissions

Forbidden Publications accepts both erotic and non-erotic submissions in all genres. At this time we are only accepting submissions from established authors.

**NOTE** All authors must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.

Do you have a story that is dying to be told? Here at Forbidden Publications, our goal is to cater to every reader's needs. Do you enjoy writing softly sweet romances? Maybe your writing style leans more to the suspenseful or extremely erotic. Whatever your genre, we may be the publisher for you. Please be sure to check the length and rating for your book below, as well as the formatting guidelines.

Story lengths:

Shorts: 5,000 to 9,999 words.
Novella: 10,000 to 14,999 words.
Mid-Category: 15,000 to 29,000
Category: 30,000 to 49,999 words.
Novel: 50,000 to 69,999 words.
Epic novel: 70,000 to 99,999.
Super Epic 100,000 and up.

Erotic Heat levels:

Sweet: A well-written story with little or no sexual content or hard language.

Sensual: A well-written story with minimal sexual content or strong language. The sexual content would not be considered extreme in nature.

Carnal: The heat is on. Sexual content and language will be strong and detailed. These stories will be very descriptive and explicit, leaving nothing to the imagination.

Extreme: Just what it says, Extreme. Though the author must follow the guidelines of what is and is not allowed, the sexual content and language will be very explicit. These will be stories 'off the beaten path' so to speak, delving into typically non-traditional relationships and situations.

What we are looking for:
Forbidden Publications is accepting well-written stories with solid plots, well-developed settings, and gripping characters that are fully realized. Your story must fit the genre and heat level you are submitting for. (Sweet, sensual, spicy, carnal, extreme) We want originality and creativity is a must.

We expect all submissions to be professionally prepared and as free of mechanical errors in punctuation, grammar, and spelling as possible. We do have editing staff, but we cannot rewrite your story for you.

While we do accept previously published works, we can only accept your out of print works if you hold the exclusive rights. Should your manuscript be accepted for publication, you will be asked to provide proof of rights reversion.

If you are unsure of a specific character or scene, please feel free to ask!

What we are not looking for:

Pedophilia: This includes any sexual situations with persons under the age of 18 years of age, including flash backs, dream sequences, etc.

Incest: This includes sexual situations or acts committed between immediate family members. For example: Mother/Son, Father/Daughter, Sister/Brother, Uncle/Niece, etc

Rape: Unless this is used as an outline or leading into your story, rape for titillation is not accepted. Strangulation or torture during a sexual act is also a big no-no. Death may occur after the act, but not during.

Necrophilia: There is nothing romantic or sexy about sex with a dead body.

Bodily Functions: Bodily functions are not acceptable story material.

Bestiality: Sex with animals is not accepted. This is referring to animals that are indigenous to earth. However, if your story involves shape shifters and mystical animals, sexual content can be used.

Manuscript Formatting:
Margins: 1 inch all around
Line spacing: 1 1/2
Font: Book Antiqua or Times New Roman 12 pt
0.5 paragraph indent

How to submit to Forbidden Publications:

These guidelines are in place to aid us in reviewing your submission as soon as possible. Submissions made without following the guidelines will be returned unread.

In the body of an email include a short cover letter including a paragraph about yourself and your publishing history, if any. Tell us if your manuscript is a single title or series. Also, please let us know if the manuscript is being considered by another publisher.

To that email attach the following:

(1) An introductory page with the following information:
Name
Pen Name (If applicable)
E-mail
Website (If applicable)
Address
Phone
Title
Genre
Approximate word count

A few paragraphs about your story (nothing chapter by chapter).

(2) A marketing plan, which should include the following:

Advertising - What type of advertising will you do to promote your work?

Publicity - What type of online or offline publicity will you use?

Book Signings – Virtual book signings you could schedule and any ideas you have for same.

Giveaways and Contests for Readers - Are you prepared to actively interact with readers via the use of contests/giveaways/chats?

Newsletter for Readers – Do you have one? If not, will you create one? How will you use it effectively?

Online interviews- Will you seek online interviews with author friendly sites?

Website - Do you have a website? If not, do you intend to obtain one?

Basically, we need any ideas you have for promotion of your book and how you intend to market it to readers. Please make this list as detailed as possible. If you're not familiar with marketing/promotions, let us know that and how you intend to become familiar with the marketing process.

All submissions and inquiries must be sent via e-mail.
Stories must be submitted in RTF or DOC format. Any other formats will be returned unopened.

Response time is determined by the number of submissions we have at that time. We will try to respond to you within a reasonable time frame.
