“What?” Adelaide
jumped up. “You wouldn’t!”
“I would, and you
can’t do anything about it. Just try to prove it.”
Adelaide trembled.
“Well?” Carol asked.
Adelaide leaned
forward and looked her coldly in the face. “So be it. Do
your worst. I’m not going do something I think is very wrong
just to make my life easier!” She strode angrily to the
door.
“You’ll regret
this!” Carol threatened.

Adelaide rushed home
and put on the blue dress. She ran up to the mirror, and to
her pleasure, Edith appeared, smiling.
“Edith, I have great
news for you!”
“What is it?”
“You’re going to
love this.”
“My dear Adele,
please tell me! I own I can hardly wait a moment longer, for
I also have news for you!”
“Okay, here it is. I
know where your husband is!”
Edith gasped and
paled.
“Edith, isn’t this
great!”
She didn’t respond,
and Adelaide frowned, concerned by her friend’s lack of
expressing joy.
