An Authorized Excerpt
I decided I should
check my e-mails to see if there were any replies to my
attempts to locate Rebecca. I felt excited when I saw that
one of my messages originated from someone in Biloxi.
Someone from the historical group there, a woman by the name
of Madeline Harris, had responded to my e-mail. I felt
nervous and excited as I began to read the message she sent:
Dear Miss Monroe,
I received your inquiry asking for information
about Katelyn Calhoun and daughter Rebecca. I do have some
information for you. Rebecca Calhoun married a man named
Robert Morgan. They resided here in Biloxi. Both Robert
and Rebecca are buried in a cemetery here. They had one
child together, a daughter. They named her Suzanne. She
got married rather late in life, to a man named Stephen
Johnson. They had one child, a son named Nathan. If I am
not mistaken, he was killed years ago in a tragic auto
accident.
Suzanne is still living. She is elderly and
resides in a nursing home here in Biloxi. Her body is
failing her, but her mind is sound. She is all of
ninety-five years old. So I guess her body is entitled to
be failing. I called her and told her I had received an
e-mail message from a woman in Georgia who is writing a
Civil War biography. She seemed quite interested when I
told her it involved her Calhoun ancestors. When I told her
you wanted to do research on the Calhouns, she indicated
that she would like to speak with you about your project. I
believe she would be willing to help you in any way she
could. I am giving you her name and phone number with area
code in case you would like to contact her.
Hope I have been of service to you.
Sincerely,
Madeline Harris
