An Authorized Excerpt:
“So you think I’m
hot?”
Clover
gave him a sympathetic look. “Yes, and I think it’s a shame
that it goes to waste on such an egotistical, womanizing
jerk.”
Running
his tongue over his lip, he studied the crisp expensive
designer suit and the way it clung to Clover’s shapely body.
The girl had definitely grown up and had grown quite the
attitude. Not to mention, she cleaned up quite nicely now
that she was dressed as a professional and not a beach hippy
“Please, Clover, tell me how you really feel.”
“By all
means, you’re the boss. You also think that any woman with
good looks lacks brains, and you really can’t think past the
little executive in your pants.” She hadn’t even hesitated
on her comment.
He
couldn’t believe this, he was more than aware she had a
brain. She was beautiful, had brains, and had more attitude
than his libido could handle. Making a baby with Clover
Callaghan the old-fashioned way would be an erotic delight.
“Well since that’s the way you feel, I’ll make this easy.”
He had the perfect plan. “Marry me and give me a child, or
you’re fired.”
Her eyes
widened in shock and her lips parted in surprise. He had
won! He could almost taste victory, but what he wanted to
taste was her lips.
“Really?
Well that’s easy then, especially since you can’t fire me,
only your dad can. I quit.” She turned on her heel and
walked towards his office door.
She
can’t
quit. He
needed her and not just at the office. There was no way! He
rose from his desk and, in a fluent movement, came between
the lovely lady and his office door. “Don’t quit!”
“Move! I
have an office to clean out.” Her voice was firm, but
something flashed over her face.
They
were less than a foot apart. From this distance, he could
smell her expensive fragrance. “You still wear the same
perfume?” He had meant it as a thought ,but it fell to his
tongue.
Her
slender neck moved slightly as she swallowed. Her chin
tilted up. “Don’t even...”
“Don’t
even what? Tell me, Clover, do you not want me to remember,
or do you not want this conversation?”
“I want
you to move Nashville O’Leary. I’m quitting and nothing you
can say will change my mind.” There it was; the business
tone but her eyes didn’t hold the same assurance.
Weighing
her words, he thought back to when they were younger. He had
liked her then, and he liked her more now. “Fine, Clover,
have it your way.”
He moved but instead of out of her way, he
closed the distance between them and took her slender curvy
frame in the wrap of his arms. His lips came down on hers
while her body struggled to escape. He expected more
resistance, but as soon he touched the soft fullness, he
lost himself in the taste of her.
