“Welcome home, Kari.”
“What?”
“Welcome home. This is
your uncle’s farm, but not in the year two thousand and
seven. This is 1880.”
“What are you talking
about?”
“I never believed Ned
when he told me he had traveled through time. He had this
place when I happened along and he said he and his brother
had to move forward through the portal of time. He said his
brother had to meet Anna so they could have their child, a
girl. That girl is you.”
“What the hell are you
blabbering about? I thought I had lost it, but it looks
like you have!”
“Come out to the barn.
I want to show you something.”
Kari got to her feet
and followed him to the door. He held it open for her and
she walked out onto the porch. She glanced around and still
felt that familiar tug that she was home. As she followed
Razor to the barn and inside, she stopped. It looked just
like her Uncle Ned’s barn. The stalls were the same and
there was her Uncle’s horse in the stall! “Horse,” she
cried, running over to him and petting him. “How did you
get here?”
“He’s been here all the
time. He never ages a day and has been waiting for you to
appear.”
“But why didn’t you
know who I was when you found me in your bed?”
“I thought you might be
working for Kyle Harker and it was some sort of trick to
catch me before I caught him.”
“The outlaw on the
wanted poster!”
“Yes.”
She watched Razor walk
over to the back stall and bend down to pick up a box. It
was the box she had found. “I don’t understand!”
“You were meant to be
here in this time with me.”
“What?” Kari felt sick
at her stomach. What the hell was going on? It was weird
enough that she was there, let alone Razor telling her she
was supposed to be there and that her uncle and father were
from this time.
“All I can tell you is that you are stuck here. This is
where you are supposed to be. Ned said one day you would
be, and that I was to take care of you…”
