What if, against all odds, Earth
possessed a resource so unique that aliens were willing to go to war with each
other to get it? And what if the laws of probability made it inconceivable that
this could have come about by chance? Would that imply divine intervention?
That’s the question that drives Steve
Kowalski when he learns that two species of aliens are about to engage in combat
high over the Colorado Rockies. One group, the Guardians, has come to Earth to
shield humanity from the rogue aliens they call the Luugs. The first shots
have already been fired, and a Guardian ship is down. Alone in the mountains,
Steve finds the injured flyer and bonds with him telepathically, beginning an
odyssey that spans the galaxy
